The time is flying by pretty darn fast. Where on earth did the month of February go? Well, after email on Tuesday, we had our weekly visit with Veronica. What is awesome is that she still asks a ton of questions. It's not at all like she was baptized and is now content, she really wants to understand the gospel. We covered the Gospel of Jesus Christ and talked of its simplicity. Spencer from the ward joined us in the lesson and added great insight. My real purpose of mentioning Spencer, is that he and Veronica are now dating. Haha, classic. They are great together. The Lord works in mysterious ways. We didn't plan on playing match maker, but it occurred. Later in the evening we had the chance to meet with a Brother Chambers. He is a good man who just isn't making it out to church right now. We shared a great scripture with him out of Alma, and he seemed to enjoy it. Highlight of the trip was the cool talking parrot. At perfect moments, the bird would laugh, and without prompting as we left it gave us a good, good-bye. Pretty cool!!!
Wednesday we had interviews with President Taylor. It was really fantastic. We talked about my mission history, members of the zone, and how we can help with an upcoming project. He is a wonderful man and definitely called of God to be here at this time. Following our interview, we hit up the local IHOP to see what we could consume. I ended up with some cinnamon roll french toast and some eggs over-easy with hash browns. Wonderful meal. Then we saw Jose. We talked with him about real intent. Many of us pray, but we don't intend to act upon the answer we receive. Well, we shouldn't plan on receiving an answer then. He has received answers, but his road block remains his family. We will continue to visit and help build his faith. In the evening we attended a YSA activity over at the church building. We played some volleyball, and it was a blast. There were some members of other wards and one non-member there. We hope to have more activities like it in the future.
Thursday, we helped a family, the Rasmussens, move some stuff into their house. They are less-active so it was nice of them to reach out to us. We had some pizza, and then shared a short lesson. The husband, a self proclaimed mega nerd, was just funny to watch. He is a classic example of computer geek comedian. After a great dinner with the Keehan family later, we saw the Rice family. We taught them the Restoration, and they each at individual points loved it. At other points, it was distracted and the answers were sarcastic. But, if at any point they felt the spirit, it was way worth it. We didn't see them at church, but we will visit again and try and build their faith.
There really isn't that much to report for Friday. We drove to Rancho Cucamonga to pick up supplies and take a missionary to a doctor appointment. Afterward, we did our weekly planning at the church. If we were in our apartment for any extended period of time, I would have gone insane. There was too much driving and sitting for one day. In the evening, we just walked around and talked to anything that was alive. On a good note, for lunch I had Boston Market. I had seen it in the past, but now we had reason to stop and eat there. Little taste of home, my mom and I would go there all the time!!!
Saturday, in the very early morning, we played basketball with some men from the stake. It was a lot of fun, and then we helped a family move. They are non-members and a member who works for them got a hold of us. We got there and moved some of the heavy stuff. I am fully confident I could run a moving company at this point. They are a great family, and we rode over to their new place with their son who is 22. We had a great talk, and I gave him the gist of what missionary work is all about. He was impressed. Hopefully the elders in the area are able to teach them. They were down sizing, so they needed to get rid of some stuff. We profited a mini-fridge. No idea what we will do with it yet, so ideas would be helpful. In the evening, we tried by Jesse, and he wasn't home :( But, his sister contacted him and told him we stopped by, and he called us and we met up in a Target parking lot! We had a great talk of his conversion and how he can feel at home at church. He tells us he can't stop smiling when he is around members of the church and when he is at church.
On Sunday, we had our two wards as usual. Both were solid. Talks were on covenants and ordinances. We in the church make promises with Heavenly Father, and in return, special blessings are available. A good reminder to me to always remember the Savior in all things that I do. Our dinner was with the Hawes family, and they are fantastic. We taught them and their kids the Restoration and they loved it. They were able to build their own testimonies. That is what it is all about.
Scripture of the week is from Alma, chapter 38, verse 5, "And now my son, Shiblon, I would that ye should remember, that as much as ye shall put your trust in God even so much ye shall be delivered from your trials, and your troubles, and your afflictions, and ye shall be lifted up at the last day."
I ask you each to put your name in place of Shiblon's at the beginning of the verse. Notice how much God loves you, and notice as well what He can and will do to help you if you let Him.
Love,
Elder Thelander
